Practical support for women with vaginal yeast infections

Vaginal yeast infections are just horrible I don't think I have met one woman that has coped well when they have a vaginal yeast infection. It's such a personal thing and can affect her emotions. Women need to be educated correctly concerning yeast infections. They need frequent support and to be encouraged to discuss the matter openly. Many women feel embarrassed about such a personal problem - nevertheless it must be diagnosed correctly. Do not delay in going to your doctor.

Most doctors are pretty good about dealing with this delicate problem and will give practical advice as well as his recommend protocol. I have listed some useful tips that you may consider adopting in helping you with your yeast infection.

1. Use the prescription as advised by your doctor.
2. Tell your doctor about any drugs you are taking such as antibiotics, steroids, and birth control pills.
3. If it is painful to urinate when you have a yeast infection - fill up half a tub of tepid or cold water and urinate in the tub.
4. Wear cotton underwear and loose-fitting clothes.
5. Dry the genital area thoroughly after a shower or bath. Change out of a wet bathing suit or damp clothes quickly.
6. Wipe from front to back after a bowel movement or after urination.
7. Do not douche if using your prescribed fungal cream from your doctor because douching may wash it out of the vagina.
8. Do not use tampons, because they may remove some of the fungal cream prescribed by your doctor from the vagina.
9. Use deodorant-free sanitary napkins.
10. Do not scratch the skin outside the vagina. Scratching can cause more irritation.
11. Boil your underwear and change your panties more than once each day. Wash delicate panties in the machine and leave them to soak in a small bucket of cold water overnight in which one-to-two cups of cider vinegar have been added.
12. Drink a lot of clean water each day. Keep hydrated.
